Repeat Prescriptions

If you get regular or repeat prescriptions, you could save time by switching to electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD).
eRD sends your prescriptions electronically from your GP surgery to a pharmacy of your choice. It’s easy to use and you don't need a computer or electronic device. For more information, please click here.
The demand for repeat prescriptions is high. This is putting immense pressure on our dispensary and pharmacy.
Please don’t order your repeats early or stock-pile medication. Request them (through SystmOnline, or by phone) no more than 10 days before you are due to run out. Please also note that we can only issue 1 month’s worth of medication, under guidance from Department of Health, Cambridgeshire CCG and GMC.
Due to recent events and to increase safety for patients and staff, we are no longer be able to accept any prescription requests on paper. We kindly ask that you contact us via systmonline, through askmygp or via phone to request your medication. Please also be aware that as we have extended our turnaround time to 5 working days in order to help with the current demand on services. Therefore please request your supply a few days earlier than normal. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
Prescribing
Each Practice within the UK is allocated an annual prescribing budget. This is closely monitored by Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust. We are limited as to what medications we are allowed to routinely use.
Generic Policy
Every drug has 2 names - a drug or generic name and a brand name. This can be very confusing. For example the generic drug ibuprofen is sold under the brand name Nurofen. It is government policy to increase the rate of generic prescribing and we are expected to write the generic name on prescriptions.
Equivalence
Equivalence is the quantity of drugs allowed on each prescription. There has recently been a Government directive recommending that on any prescription the maximum quantity of drugs prescribed should be those needed for 28 days. If further supplies are needed then they should be repeated every 28 days. The government say this would prevent wastage and save over 10% of the national drug bill.

The Practice Dispensary is able to provide our village patients with their medicines. Details of collection points are available from the reception desk. Patients living in Soham must obtain their medicines from a Pharmacy. A home delivery service for the elderly and housebound is available to the residents of our surrounding villages.
The Dispensary is open at the following times:
- Monday - Friday 8.30am - 7.00pm
- Saturday 8.30am - 1pm
- Sunday CLOSED
